Curriculum
CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT.
We provide a variety of paints, different types of crayons, pencils, glue, junk modelling, collage and other artistic materials. When children make things to take home we feel that whilst a helper will be available to give as much guidance and encouragement as is needed, it is important that the finished article is the child's own work. It builds the children's confidence to be allowed to use their own imagination.

IMAGINATIVE DEVELOPMENT.
We have many toys to stimulate children's imagination. These include playhouse equipment, dolls, workbench, train sets, dolls houses, roadways, dressing-up clothes, puppets, miniature farm and wild animals plus many more.

INDEPENDENCE.
The children are encouraged to do things for themselves and for others e.g. giving out the biscuits at snack time, helping to tidy away the toys, going to the toilet by themselves, putting on their own coat and shoes. Self-reliance helps build self-esteem.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY.
We have a computer for the children to use with a variety of educational games. In today's 'Hi Tec' world we feel the sooner children acquaint themselves with a keyboard the better.

MUSIC AND SINGING.
The children also enjoy finger rhymes, singing, music and movement, and we have a range of musical instruments for them to play to help learn to distinguish between different sounds.

LANGUAGE AND LITERACY.
We have matching games to help children learn letters and simple words and they are taught to recognise their own name in print. There is a well stocked book corner and we regularly borrow books from the local library. We encourage children to talk about the pictures in books and to tell their own stories. Conversation forms a large part of a morning at pre-school. All these activities help to develop language.

SOCIAL SKILLS.
In pre-school children can make friends with others of their own age, learn to share, take turns and join in with group play. They learn to interact with adults outside their immediate family. We encourage them to be polite and well mannered towards each other and to the adults in the group. They are taught self-respect and to respect the feelings of others, and that we should be kind and helpful to smaller, younger and less able children. The pre-school operates an equal opportunities policy.

PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT.
Large muscle control is developed using the following apparatus;
climbing frame, trampoline, tunnel, balls, hoops, bean bags etc. We also do simple exercises specifically designed for children 3-5 years old, and play physical games. When the weather permits we have outdoor play and trips to the local playground.

Fine muscle control and spacial awareness are developed using our wide range of construction toys, these include: Duplo, Magnet blocks, Interstar, Popoids, Stickle bricks, Waffle blocks etc. We have various threading sets plus an extensive range of inset boards and jigsaw puzzles. Playdough, clay and a variety of hand held tools, including scissors are also provided.

MATHEMATICAL & SCIENCE SKILLS.
We compare, sort, match, sequence and count with objects and shapes. The children learn counting rhymes and play counting and matching games. Cooking is done using picture recipes. We do simple experiments with growing plants, studying the weather, birds, animals and other interesting topics. They are also introduced to such concepts as weight and volume using sand, water and other materials.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE WORLD.
We have visits to local places of interest. Visitors come into the group to talk to the children about such subjects as road safety, fire prevention or to  bring in a pet and explain the pets needs and how the pet is cared for. We do projects about different lifestyles, cultures and communities and taste foods from other cultures and countries.
